Since 2000, we have been able to send 130 middle school girls to science camp at colleges in southern California (Tech Trek), awarded scholarships to 39 high school girls pursuing higher education in the STEM fields, introduced a Zoo Tech internship program and conducted a speech contest (Speech Trek) to expand awareness of issues facing women while providing public speaking opportunities.

With your help, we hope to send ten middle school girls to Tech Trek camp, award five $1,000 college scholarships, expand the zoo internship program to five high school girls and offer awards to the winners of our speech contest.

WHAT EXACTLY IS GiveBIG?

For the third year, The Community Foundation and the County of San Bernardino presented GiveBIG!  Our very successful effort was once again skillfully chaired by member Lisa Patterson and her able committee.  We raised more than $30K in previous years,  including donations and prize money!

There’s friendly, but fierce, competition between BBVAAUW and other Big Bear non-profits for cash money. Local non-profit leaders in Big Bear have been attending GiveBIG! planning meetings to learn how to best compete.
